Rainwater Harvesting as an 'Off-Grid' option:
A rainwater harvesting system, for commercial or private use is part of the solution to avoid a worldwide water crisis, especially in a semi-arid country like South Africa. Increasing water demand/consumption by our industry, agricultural and household users combined with drought and climate change had made our existing water supply infrastructure very strained. Rainwater harvesting can become the most suitable solution and has a lot of benefits not just for the users, but also to the government and the environment.
When using rainwater as an alternative supply of water we recommend using only rainwater that has been harvested directly from a rooftop, never surface run-off water. Through extensive treatment the water can be used throughout the house, even as drinking water. The storage capacity is based on the area that can be used for harvesting. This volume of stored rainwater vs consumption will determine for how many months a year you can be off the grid. To go completely off the grid would require recycling all your pool backwash, grey and black water for various applications as well. Our off-grid system has a built-in municipal back-up system and treats all water entering your property.
The integration between rainwater harvesting and existing conventional water supply systems will help to meet the demand and contribute in the sustainability of the water supply. Always remember 'A thousand mile journey starts with one step' - you don't have to install the complete system at once; a phased approach is always an option. Our speciality is water harvesting, conserving water, ensuring you have an aesthetically pleasing system that saves you money and water.
